We recognised a friend in Lawrie from the moment we met and this was before we moved into the bungalow next door to to him. He offered us tea and was so friendly that we felt we had lived there for years. His battle to study archaeology is a lesson to us all and his enthusiasm when a particular 'find' was made was infectious. This signified what Lawrie gave to life and he lived it to the full. His ready smile and constant jokes are irreplaceable and will be missed by us all.
